28 YEAR OLD RAPES A 58 YEAR OLD WIDOW CHANDI CHIPA and sons emabarrased-- 2003

58 year old Chandi Chipa, a resident of Bishniya was widowed when she was young. She is a tailor by profession and has struggled a lot to bring up and educate her 6 children. When she started losing sight due to age, she started earning for her family by selling vegetables. Once, while she was going to market with a basketful of vegetables and chillies, a tractor driven by Narayan Gurjar stopped her and he told her to drop off the whole basket in his house since there was a wedding occasion there. Chandi would never have imagined then that this ma, who was of her sons age would do such an inhuman act. She trusted him and sat in the tractor. He stopped at a remote place and raped her. Not just that, he also stole her earrings and her 5000 rupees. When she threatened to send him to jail, he threw her in the nearby pond. He left thinking that he had destroyed all the proof. But determined Chandi swam out of the pond and came straight to Bhilwara. She came to B.M.C.S and informed Taraji about this incident, after which they filed a police complaint against the accused. However, it was not easy for her to get justice since all the sexual harassment proofs had been destroyed when she was thrown in the pond. Police also tried their best to close the case without the victim getting justice. But our organisation was
determined and gathered some proofs on site such as broken bangles, signs of struggle during rape in those fields etc which eventually helped her get justice.
SOCIAL VIEWPOINT OF THIS INCIDENT:
Chandi's 3 sons did not allow her to stay in her own husbands house saying that they nobody will give their daughters hand in marriage to them now after this incident to Chandi. they requested her to stay in Bhilwara and look after herself. At this, Taraji conducted a meeting in village and made people realize how wrong it is to raise questions about own mothers characters when she has spent her whole life in trying to give them a good living and education. She told them that they should be supporting her in this difficult phase, rather than isolating her like this. She also claimed that the house belonged to her husband and her children should leave the house rather than her. After hearing this, Chandis's 3 sons agreed to compromise and let her stay. But Chandi sold the house and opened and FDR account with the money earned, and now she is living an independent life.
After long court proceedings, the accused was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.
